Encaustic is the ancient medium or technique of painting with molten beeswax mixed with resin and colored pigments that are heat-fused in layers to a support. The versatility, translucency, and textural capabilities of encaustic has made it attractive to a wide variety of artists - painters, sculptors, photographers and mixed media artists have all been enticed to experiment with this fascinating medium. With my own background in textile design, the ability to incorporate paper and fabric, use vibrant colors and a variety of textures has caused me to fall in love with this amazing art form.
It gives me great joy to be able to share my passion with others. I am currently offering a variety of different workshops at my private Portsmouth NH studio. The cost includes all materials needed.
I have no more workshops planned for 2019. I will be posting my 2020 beginners classes at the end of September and more advanced classes will be posted in November. If you would like to be on my mailing list then please email me. Before booking a class, please read the cancellation and liability policy below.
"Emma is a wonderful teacher, I’ve taken all her classes so far as well as studio time, and have learned so much. Her new studio is a lovely place to learn: spacious layout with all the materials & equipment you could want. In terms of guidance, she has a lot of knowledge and a pleasantly low key yet organized way of teaching. Working on our own pieces, she steps in with just the right suggestions on technique and composition to help you move to the next level with your art." Karla, PA.
"My favorite one-day workshop was an encaustic class with Emma Ashby at her studio in Portsmouth...This single workshop inspired me to pursue learning more about this medium and provided a great day of art making and conversation with other art enthusiasts.” Vandy, Portsmouth Herald
